“You are the last generation. Your children will not
have this experience…”
These words, directed to an audience of high school students
by Eva Olsson, a holocaust survivor, had a profound effect. Students from
Mrs. Niebauer’s Enrichment class and Mr. Strittmatter’s AP History class were
in attendance at Penn Highlands Community College as Dr. Olsson spoke
recently. Many of them described the event as life-changing and were
grateful and outspoken regarding the experience. We would like to thank
the Education Foundation for providing the funding to make this trip possible.
When the opportunity to bring Dr. Eva Olsson here to speak
to all of our students and our community arose, there was no hesitation.
Now ALL CCHS students will have the incredible opportunity to attend a
presentation by Dr. Olsson on May 7th. Dr. Olsson will tell her
remarkable story of survival which is accompanied by a slide show containing
images that parallel her experiences. Dr. Olsson spent time in both Auschwitz
and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps during WWII. We believe this is
truly a once-in-a-lifetime event and an extraordinary opportunity for our
students. Eva Olsson’s message of eradicating hate is told through her
amazing story of surviving the torment of, what she calls, the Nazi
bullies.
*In addition, CCHS will host an evening presentation by Dr.
Olsson for the community on May 7th at 6:00 PM. All students, parents,
faculty, board members, and community members are invited to attend this
presentation to be held in the auditorium. Please see the attached flyer for
more information.
