Josh Remillard Selected for the 2013 All Star Invitational Marching Band

Josh Remillard has been selected for the 2013 All Star Invitational Marching Band.  He was part of All Star Marching Band as a trumpet player. The All Star Invitational Marching Band unites talented performers from around the country by offering them the opportunity to showcase their skills at a national marching event and interact with a team of nationally recognized marching directors. Participation in the All Star Invitational Marching Band is limited to the finest high school performers from across North America.

Josh auditioned for the All Star Band and was accepted after a review by the Selection Review Board.  Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in his application and audition videos.  Josh joined other performers from the United States for two performances at one of the biggest games in college football, the Discover Orange Bowl.

All Stars came together for six days in Florida to practice and prepare for the performances. This exciting week included the opportunity to work with the nation’s leading marching band directors and culminated in not one, but two performances on one of the biggest stages in college football – the Orange Bowl! The 2013 directors include Dr. Kenneth Dye (Director of Bands, University of Notre Dame), Barry Bernhardt (Director of Bands, Florida International University), James Hudson (Marching Band Director, Arizona State University), Norm Ruebling (acclaimed percussion educator) and Wes Cartwright.

The All Star Invitational Marching Band combines the skill of the country’s best marching students with the excitement of performing in front of nearly 75,000 fans. Each year, they bring together the most talented high school marching band performers to work with the biggest names in the marching profession and showcase their skills at prestigious national events.

Central Cambria Alumni Scholarship Concert

Josh Duman, A.J. Pagano, and Mariah Seymour are 2010 Central Cambria graduates. They are seniors at Slippery Rock University studying music education. The trio will be graduating in May and attribute much of their success to Central Cambria's music department. They will be performing a concert on January 16th at 7:30 PM in the Central Cambria Auditorium where they will collect donations to start a scholarship fund for a senior at Central Cambria who is involved in the choral program. Cash and check donations are accepted. Donations in check form are tax deductible and can be made out to CCEF with J.A.M. Trio in the memo line.  We invite everyone to come out and enjoy a spectacular night of music!

Bottleworks Art

Eight high school art student’s works are currently on exhibit in the 2nd annual Student Art Show sponsored by the BOTTLE WORKS Ethnic Arts Center and the ART WORKS in Johnstown! These select art works are representative of lessons completed in the high school art classes. The exhibit opened on Dec 14th with a reception from 5 – 7 pm for artists, families and the public.  It will end with a closing awards ceremony, again for the artists, families and the public, slated for Jan 9th at 6:30 pm. Awards are presented in two areas - prize winners and honorable mention.  Prize Winners from CCHS captured two categories.  Tori Flick was granted the Creative Award and Calvin Crow the Best in Painting Award. Honorable Mention was granted to Kassy Brown for the Drawing Award. A special thanks to Victoria Thwing,  former CCHS art student & graduate; current event coordinator at the BOTTLE WORKS ethnic Arts Center who extended this invitation and opportunity to our students!

WJAC-TV Visited By CCHS Broadcast/Journalism and Photography Classes

On Wednesday, December 4th, members of Mrs. Shirk’s Broadcast/ Journalism class and Mrs. Irwin’s Photography course departed for the WJAC-TV studio in Windber, PA.  Thanks to a grant provided by the Central Cambria Education Foundation, students were able to:  tour the studio, ask questions of their tour guide—meteorologist, Jim Burton and observe the live production of the afternoon news segment.  Students were delighted to see many of the elements of news production they encountered in the CCTV broadcast room being employed in the actual field.  Photography students learned a lot about the efforts of lighting in a studio, and they encountered graphic design opportunities that would be available to them as career opportunities in the news industry.   Mark Pavic stated, “The trip to WJAC-TV was not only fun but also very enriching.  For a person who is unsure of their future career path, like me, found the trip informative of that particular job field.  Also, being in broadcasting/ journalism, the trip gave me the opportunity to better hone my skills within the CCTV newsroom. ”  Mark’s reaction to the trip was exemplary of most of the students as they all expressed their appreciation of the opportunity to see the application of what they are learning in the classroom being showcased in a real-world application.
