“We are proud to recognize these outstanding members of our
student body. National Honor Society
members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary
contributions to the school and community,” said Michelle Shirk, Central
Cambria chapter advisor.
The Central Cambria chapter each year sponsors several
service projects for the school and community, which in this year have
included: A district-wide collection for the homeless, bell ringing for the
Salvation Army, a monetary collection to help families in need at Christmas,
Random Acts of Kindness Week, a Valentine bake sale that benefited Relay for
Life, a Superhero themed dance that benefited Relay for Life, and a first ever
teacher/student basketball game that benefited Relay for Life. Students will also be participating in the
Relay for Life walk at the track on June 14th and 15th.
This year alone members of the NHS have completed over 860 hours of service.
The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and
most prestigious national organizations for high school students. Chapters exist in more than 15,000 schools
and, since 1921; millions of students have been selected for membership. This national student recognition
organization is proudly sponsored by the National Association of Secondary
School Principals (NASSP).
