On Thursday, October 23rd,
Central Cambria’s Exploring Concepts of STEM class went on a field trip to the
Colver Power Project and the Patton Wind Farm.
The cost of the transportation was generously funded by PA Career Link. Dennis Simmers, a member of Central Cambria’s
Board of Directors, along with a few other Colver Power Project employees took
the students on an exciting tour of the co-generation plant. The students learned how waste coal can be
efficiently burned to generate electricity.
They also learned how the clean-up of this waste coal can have a positive impact on the environment. Two individuals from the Institute of Energy
at Saint Francis University accompanied the group for the tour of the Patton
Wind Farm. Students were introduced to
the use of wind turbines as a viable option for the production of
electricity. The field trip was a great
way to show the importance of STEM related topics in our very own
communities.
