Officer to stay at Central Cambria

The Central Cambria School  District is pleased to confirm that through the generous donations of our parents, local police departments, township supervisors, and the Education Association, an officer will remain on the High School/Middle School campus for the remainder of the school year.
Ms. Jo-Ann Semko, CCEA President, presented a check for $500 to the CC Administration during a coordination meeting with representatives from Cambria Township Supervisors and Cambria Township Police Department.

"The Central Cambria teachers chose to make this donation because we have dedicated our lives to the children of this community and their safety, well being, and peace of mind is of tremendous importance to each of us."

The officer is available to assist in any of the four school buildings if needed, and provides an added measure of security to the District's Comprehensive Safe Schools Planning.

African Map

Third grade students experienced a Large Map of Africa that was on display in the Cambria Elementary School gym on May 16^th. This learning opportunity was provided by The Learning Lamp with funding provided by our PTO. We would like to thank the Learning Lamp, Christie Cuppett, and our PTO for providing this fun learning experience for our third grade students.   Amanda Peretin from the Learning Lamp stated, “It was great to see the third graders engaged and actively learning about other places in our world.  Many of the third graders impressed me with their knowledge of Africa.  They knew about animals, natural features, and many other geographical facts.”

Science Kit Delivery

Dr. Lansberry traveled to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, May 14 to return the spring science kits and pick up the science kits needed for the fall and spring term next year. Proceeds from this year’s Supper for Science and additional financial support from the Central Cambria Education Foundation made it possible for the District to purchase the Science kits needed at both elementary schools for next year.  The students, parents, faculty and support staff would like to thank everyone for their support of science education in the Central Cambria Elementary Schools.  The attached photo shows the excitement of the students who helped unload Dr. Lansberry’s trailer of supplies that he delivered to our school from ASSET STEM Education in Pittsburgh.  The District was able to save significantly on shipping costs by having the Principal transport these materials.

Fitness Day

Fitness Day will be held on Wednesday, May 15.   The high school students who are members of the Interact Club will lead all the grade school students in games and activities in the back playground. Students are reminded to wear appropriate clothing for being outdoors. A healthy snack will be provided by our food service.  The focus of the day is fitness and healthy eating as purported by Fuel Up to Play 60. Rain date is May 20.

   Visual Arts students from Central Cambria Middle and High schools exhibit annually in several local student art shows.  One of the biggest of these shows is the Greater Johnstown Young Artists Exhibit held at the Cambria County Community Arts Center in Westmont.   Each May Central Cambria is well represented by several of our talented, dedicated, young people who have made a commitment to their artistic development throughout the school year.  2012-2013 was no different as 9 high school and 6 middle school students submitted work to the juried show.  Four of those students, (Haley Kurtz – grade 12, Mollie Baker – grade 11, David Beyer – grade 8, and Julia Schaffer – grade 8), were awarded Achievement award honors, blue ribbons, and cash prizes.  Mr. Dumm and Mrs. Irwin would like to thank all the participating students for their hard work.
