The Central Cambria School District ARCC Committee (Atmosphere of Respect, Courtesy, and Courage) is continuing their work on addressing issues that may place students at-risk and impede their academic and emotional well-being. On Friday, March 9th, ARCC presented a training conducted by Mr. Kevin Price from District Attorney Kelly Callihan’s office. The training informed teachers about current drug trends facing teens in Cambria County.
Teachers learned about many types of drugs and the symptoms and paraphernalia associated with each. Along with the familiar drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, and heroin, they learned about new and more serious drugs such as Spice or K2, oxycontin, opana, and bath salts. After completing the training, secondary teachers are more aware of the types of drugs reaching our students and the devastating effects of each. Working together with school staff, police, and community resources, we can develop strategies to reduce drug use as we strive to make our school a safer place for all who attend.
