Jackson Fire Department Visits Jackson Elementary School
The students at Jackson Elementary School had an opportunity to practice their fire safety skills by crawling through the “smokehouse” and using other fire safety strategies. We would like to give special thanks to the Jackson Volunteer Fire Company for helping our students learn and practice the importance of fire safety.
Homecoming and Spirit Week at CCHS!

Students are participating in Homecoming and Spirit activities this week. The festivities began on Sunday, October 4th with hall decorating and the Powder Puff Football Game. Student Council members decorated their hallways to represent the themes selected for their grade level. Traveling through the school you can see the Flashback Freshmen, the Sleepy Sophomores, the Jurassic Juniors, and the Senior Citizen Seniors! The senior girls were victorious over the junior girls in the Powder Puff game Sunday afternoon as they braved the chilly conditions under the guidance of their enthusiastic coaches. Each school day, students dress according to the theme selected by Student Council.
The themes were:
Monday – Character/Celebrity and Sport Day
Tuesday – Twin Day
Wednesday – Camo, Tye Dye, and Mismatch Day
Thursday – Hallway Theme Day
Friday – Pink Out and Red/Black

Friday’s football game is Homecoming and all spectators are encouraged to wear pink to show support for breast cancer awareness. The Homecoming Court will be introduced at 6:30 and then the King and Queen will be announced. To wrap up the festivities, the Homecoming Dance will be held from 7:00 – 10:00 Saturday night. This is a formal dance and over 350 students are signed up to attend in their finery! Picture forms are available in the office and additional forms will be available at the dance. It is a busy and exciting week for CCHS!

Jackson Elementary kicks off new positive behavior program
On Oct. 6, Mrs. Kate Wolf, guidance counselor and 5th grade student team members –Marissa Stanovich, Abby Swartz, SarahBeth Mish, Skylar Bloom, Cody Novitski, Nolan Wyras, Jacob Buynack and Cameron Emerson - introduced the new School Wide Positive Behavior program to all students.
To encourage and recognize the positive behaviors of our students, Cambria and Jackson Elementary schools are focusing on creating an atmosphere of respect and courtesy.
What that means is that all elementary students have clear expectations for behaviors posted in all areas of the school, teachers reinforce those rules and behaviors with various incentives in their classrooms, the guidance counselor teaches character education lessons, and all school personnel reinforce the positive behaviors.
What’s new is an additional rewards program. All school personnel have Central Cambria Cash Tickets that they can hand a child when they catch them doing something good. The student fills out their name and grade on the tickets and drops them into the big colorful box for their grade.
Each 6 day cycle, names will be drawn from these boxes for each grade level. Those students’ names will be read over the morning announcements and they will get to pick an extra prize of their choice. Prizes include items like toys, art supplies, books, clothing and (best of all) coupons for incentives that the students’ chose. Those coupons give them a chance to “eat a private lunch with a friend” at a special location, to “read to a kindergarten class”, to get “extra computer time” or a “homework pass”, etc.
We want all students to recognize how their behavior affects others around them and their environment. With this program focusing on the positives, we create less discipline referrals, more student role models and an enhanced school climate.
