Fuel Up to Play 60 Program

On Wednesday November 6, members of the boys and girls cross country teams participated in the kick-off event for the Fuel Up to Play 60 Program at Jackson Elementary. Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council (NDC) and NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, to help encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives. Fuel Up to Play 60 helps students make positive changes in their schools by improving opportunities to consume nutrient-rich foods and get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The runners showed the elementary students some activities they do to stay in shape, discussed the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and how it all translates into being an all-around better student.

Red Devil XC Program Wins 2 District VI Titles

10/26/13 It was a great day for the Central Cambria boys and girls cross teams! The girls started things out by winning their 9^th consecutive District VI Championship, led by a one-two punch of Samantha Koss and Emma Wess, placing 2^nd and 3^rd respectively. By placing all seven runners in the top 17, Sydney Gilkey 6^th, Jordan Hayward 12^th, Jackie Bracken 15^th, Kaitlyn McKeel 16^th and Hannah Swope 17^th, the Lady Red Devils outdistanced their nearest rival by 48 points. The boys win, the first in 3 years, was in dominant fashion by placing 4 runner in the top 11 places. Leading the way was Javaunte Neumann in 3^rd, followed by Justin Jeffers in 4^th, Logan Brandis in 8^th and Bryce Descavish in 11^th. Rounding out the top 7 were Mike Walwro in 21^st, Max Murin in 24^th, and David Barnes in 31^st. The boys nearest competitor was 58 points behind the high flying Red Devils.

Post High School Opportunity Fair

Eighty seniors attended the Post High School Opportunity Fair at the Altoona Area Field House on October 2nd.  Over ninety colleges, universities, career schools, and military branches were represented.  Students had the opportunity to ask questions of the representatives and were provided a wealth of information about the schools in which they are interested.  In addition, job services and financial aid organizations were represented.

On the bus ride home, Mrs. Dixon spoke to a senior who mentioned that the Susquehanna University representative commented to this young lady on the overall attire worn by CCHS students. The Susquehanna University representative went on to say how encouraging it was to see high school students who were appropriately dressed and represented their school district so well.  On behalf of Mrs. Dixon, Mr. Wilson, and the seniors who attended the Post High School Opportunity Fair, we would like to thank the Board for funding the transportation and permitting us to participate in this very worthwhile event.

2013 Central Cambria High School Golf Season

-       The CCHS golf team had a successful season winning the District 6 title for the third year in a row.  Jeremy Eckenrode placed 1st individually with Dom Stevens second.  Both golfers advanced to the PIAA Boys AA State Championship with Dom placing 8th and Jeremy 22nd in the State.
