Choosing Summer Physical Education

Twenty students began their summer vacation by voyaging back to their school to experience a journey of Physical Education Fun.  These young men and women successfully met all of the requirements to complete our first Summer School Physical Education Program, designed to create space in their upcoming schedules for additional academic courses. They participated in a rigorous variety of activities that they found would not only nurture them physically, but socially as well.  The teachers witnessed many situations that proved that performance and success were of importance.  Students enjoyed participating in tennis, volleyball, weight lifting, and cardio-vascular power and endurance walking.  A special trip was planned in which all of the students joined in a fifteen mile bike trek from the Ebensburg Youth Center to Nanty Glo and back.  Legs burned, shoelaces got stuck in chains, and some randomly fell off the path into the weeds along the Ghost Town Trail.  No one received injury and students concurred that a good time was had by all.  Smiling faces and slight groans of muscle pain are known to make any Physical Education teacher proud.

All of the students faced challenges in the 30 hour requirement for class completion, but they provided themselves with drive and fortitude - two needed ingredients in the word success.  Mr. Nikolishen and Miss Getz are very proud to be the two teachers who had the opportunity to witness all of the action which took place during Summer Physical Education 2015.  The students worked very hard and provided each other and the teachers with smiles, laughter, and pride.  There were several students who even came for all of the 36 hours offered just for the simple reason that they wanted to come for the workout.  The students were awesome and the school district should be commended for their offering of this program, which provided the opportunity for academic opportunities and advancement for students at Central Cambria High School.
