St. Francis “ROCK” Program Visits Mr. Wagner's Chemistry Classes

On February 4 (2/4/14), students from the St. Francis “ROCK” program came to work with and present their program to Mr. Wagner’s Chemistry classes.  “ROCK” stands for Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids and is an excellent program to get high school students interested in science oriented college programs and careers.  Three of Mr. Wagner’s former Chemistry students, Christopher Evans, Sabrina Blake, and Tim Shoff, came back to Central Cambria to present the program.  A former Bedford student, Rebecca Krupa, also helped present the “ROCK” program.  The St. Francis students performed demonstrations and hands on activities with the students involving liquid nitrogen, the gas laws, and superconductivity.  The students absolutely loved the program and took a real interest in the hands on chemistry that was being presented.  Mr. Wagner and his students would also like to thank Mrs. McDermott for allowing the St. Francis students to come in and present the “ROCK” program.

Kindles Donated to Jackson Elementary

Jackson Elementary has been working hard to raise money for the Tech Pal program, designed to incorporate technology into the classroom. The goal is to raise enough money to purchase Kindle Fires for the 4th and 5th grades.

Recently, a very generous anonymous donor donated 40 Kindle Fires to the program. With the proceeds from the Jackson Heritage 5k donated by the Jackson Township Supervisors, a spirit sale, student donations, donations from Gilkey Pools, Dr. Joseph Cavalier, Dr. Donald Leckey and other business donations, Jackson Elementary was also able to purchase a charging cart. The Jackson Elementary PTO also donated Amazon gift cards to help with the cost of apps.

From the students, faculty and staff, we would like to thank all of those who support our students at Jackson Elementary.

Jackson Elementary is still accepting donations to continue purchasing Kindle Fires so that each student in 4th and 5th grade has their own to save their work and progress on. If you are interested in becoming a Tech Pal, please contact Jackson Elementary at 814-749-8421.

Fuel Up to Play 60

Fuel Up to Play 60

Cambria Elementary was awarded $603 from Fuel Up to Play 60 to promote “Grab and Go” breakfasts. Also, the members of Fuel Up to Play 60 have asked students at Cambria Elementary to pilot an Adopt-A-Farmer  program.  The DoVan farm family is from Berlin and will talk with some fifth grade students about the dairy industry by way of Skype.  The dairy industry is interested in the health of students and the use of low-fat dairy products to accomplish this.
