Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

We’re proud to be participating in FundingFactory’s 2014 Recycling Rumble. JACKSON ELEMENTARY is facing off against SEDGWICK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL from SEDGWICK, ME and we need your help!

Now through April 15, drop off empty laser and inkjet cartridges and used cell phones, MP3 players, GPS devices, and digital cameras. With each item you contribute, we’ll be one step closer to knocking out our competitor!

The winning organization between the two will earn a 25% fundraising bonus, and the top recycler among all nationwide match-ups will also win $5,000, all compliments of the national fundraising through recycling program FundingFactory.

Don’t forget to ask your workplace for their cartridges to support JACKSON ELEMENTARY instead of sending them back to the manufacturer.

For more information about supporting JACKSON ELEMENTARY as an individual or Business Supporter, contact the office at 814-749-8421 or email theeney@cencam.org.

Counselor Appreciation Week

National School Counseling Week was celebrated February 3-7 in each building. The theme was "School Counseling: Building Magical Futures," highlighting the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. School counselors make an impact in every student’s life, assisting with academic, career and personal/social development. We are very appreciative of the multitude of services our counselors provide and coordinate for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community agencies. School counselors often have to morph from routine scheduling tasks, to a tragic death, to a drug issue, or to reporting a case of abuse in just seconds. Our sincere thanks are extended to Mrs. Dixon, Mr. Wilson, Ms. Ribarich, and Mrs. Wolf for all they do to ensure a safe and productive learning environment within our schools.

St. Francis “ROCK” Program Visits Mr. Wagner's Chemistry Classes

On February 4 (2/4/14), students from the St. Francis “ROCK” program came to work with and present their program to Mr. Wagner’s Chemistry classes.  “ROCK” stands for Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids and is an excellent program to get high school students interested in science oriented college programs and careers.  Three of Mr. Wagner’s former Chemistry students, Christopher Evans, Sabrina Blake, and Tim Shoff, came back to Central Cambria to present the program.  A former Bedford student, Rebecca Krupa, also helped present the “ROCK” program.  The St. Francis students performed demonstrations and hands on activities with the students involving liquid nitrogen, the gas laws, and superconductivity.  The students absolutely loved the program and took a real interest in the hands on chemistry that was being presented.  Mr. Wagner and his students would also like to thank Mrs. McDermott for allowing the St. Francis students to come in and present the “ROCK” program.

Kindles Donated to Jackson Elementary

Jackson Elementary has been working hard to raise money for the Tech Pal program, designed to incorporate technology into the classroom. The goal is to raise enough money to purchase Kindle Fires for the 4th and 5th grades.

Recently, a very generous anonymous donor donated 40 Kindle Fires to the program. With the proceeds from the Jackson Heritage 5k donated by the Jackson Township Supervisors, a spirit sale, student donations, donations from Gilkey Pools, Dr. Joseph Cavalier, Dr. Donald Leckey and other business donations, Jackson Elementary was also able to purchase a charging cart. The Jackson Elementary PTO also donated Amazon gift cards to help with the cost of apps.

From the students, faculty and staff, we would like to thank all of those who support our students at Jackson Elementary.

Jackson Elementary is still accepting donations to continue purchasing Kindle Fires so that each student in 4th and 5th grade has their own to save their work and progress on. If you are interested in becoming a Tech Pal, please contact Jackson Elementary at 814-749-8421.

Fuel Up to Play 60

Fuel Up to Play 60

Cambria Elementary was awarded $603 from Fuel Up to Play 60 to promote “Grab and Go” breakfasts. Also, the members of Fuel Up to Play 60 have asked students at Cambria Elementary to pilot an Adopt-A-Farmer  program.  The DoVan farm family is from Berlin and will talk with some fifth grade students about the dairy industry by way of Skype.  The dairy industry is interested in the health of students and the use of low-fat dairy products to accomplish this.
