CCTV Visit at CE

The CCTV visited our elementary schools to share a presentation that centers on the importance of Kindness and focuses especially on Kindness Online when using social networks.

The broadcasting students were inspired to help our younger students to: become more aware of their online image, understand the lasting impact of their posts/tweets/snaps/grams on others, and provide them with solid advice about how to stay safe.

At Cambria Elementary, students in 3rd,4th and 5th grade were able to view the presentation and participate in discussion on common on line trends, both positive and negative, kind ways to respond to others posts, and steps to take to ensure the safety of online accounts. They did an incredible job and our students really enjoyed hearing their message.

CES PA Game Commission Visit

Officer Seth Mesoras from the PA Game Commission came to visit our kindergarten and first grade classrooms. He taught the students about PA wildlife. He brought all of his pelts and the students had the opportunity to feel all of them. Officer Mesoras just happened to trap a bear that evening and brought it up for the children to see. There was a baby bear and a 481 pound bear. The 481 pound bear was tranquilized and the students had the chance to see its teeth and ear clip.

“Almost, Maine”

On April 16 and 17, the Central Cambria Drama Club performed John Cariani’s  romantic comedy “Almost, Maine”. The cast included 13 students from CCHS, with some familiar faces from the musical program as well as some first-timers on the Jacqueline Barber Deballi Stage!

“Almost, Maine” is a series of vignettes that take place in the little northern town of Almost, Maine. In this town, where it is not unusual to see the famous Aurora Borealis in the starry night sky, each scene happens at around 9:00pm on a Friday night. The northern lights emerge during each scene’s climax, where the characters either fall for each other or distance themselves indefinitely.  

The cast includes   (in order of appearance) Joe Caroff, Ryleigh Shoff, Davey Beyer, Jordan Johnson, Sam Caplea, Cassie Gabrielson, Emily Shero, Mike Hale, Taylor Koenigsburg, Brynne Nagy, Emmy Stevens, Logan Tremel, and Jessa Balough.

Junior Joe Caroff and Freshman Ryleigh Shoff begin and end the play with a charmingly awkward scene about new love where Ryleigh’s character “walks around the world” to return to Joe, her new love. Sophomore Davey Beyer and junior Jordan Johnson serendipitously meet and fall in love when Davey’s character, a repairman, was the only person able to fix Jordan’s character’s broken heart. Junior Sam Caplea and sophomore Cassie Gabrielson exchange an awkward scene as Sam’s character realizes his old girlfriend, Cassie, is about to be married. Luckily for Sam’s character, the Waitress (freshman Mady Simmers) just might be the right girl for him! Junior Joe Caroff reappears as Steve in the next scene where he meets sophomore Emily Shero. Both characters explore the pain that comes from relationships in a hilarious prat-falling scene. At the end of Act I, seniors Taylor Koenigsburg and Michael Hale starred in “Giving it Back”, a scene that begins with heartache and ends with an engagement ring.

Act II begins with junior Brynne Nagy and sophomore Davey Beyer as best friends who find there might just be something more to their relationship than they thought when both characters literally fall for each other all over the stage! Senior Emmy Stevens returns to hometown Almost, Maine to answer a question from her old boyfriend Sam Caplea. Sadly, Emmy’s character finds she is too late to say “yes” to his marriage proposal, as she finds that Sam’s character has moved on with wife Suzette (played by Cassie Gabrielson). The heartache continues as husband and wife (played by Brynne Nagy and Michael Hale) attempt to rekindle their stagnant love by revisiting Echo Pond, the place of their first date. They are forced to face their own shortcomings in the relationship and ultimately part ways. Finally, freshman and sophomore duo Logan Tremel and Jessa Balough delivered lots of laughs with the final full scene of the night. Jessa’s character- a self-proclaimed arm wrestling champ with no interest in love-finds that her best friend and snowmobile partner (played by Logan Tremel) is in love with her. As she struggles to deal with what this might mean, she finds that she might just be in love with him too. The play ends with Joe and Ryleigh finding each other as Ryleigh returns from her trip around the world, solidifying the message that love can lead us to leave our comfort zone and explore unexplored territory.

The cast and crew (Crew members include Connor Farabaugh, Abby Morrell, Josh Hodgson, Maria Refner, Lauren Mackey, and Katie Regan) worked hard to create a fabulous show. 

JES kicks off the PSSA’s with a Pep Rally

Students at Jackson Elementary participated in a pep rally to get the students excited about taking the PSSA’s. Elementary student cheerleaders lead the pep rally for the students. Thanks to Nikki Burkett and Nikki Newcomer that helped with this event.

JES Anti-Bullying Initiatives

As part of JES’s continual effort with Anti-Bullying initiatives, 4th & 5th grade students were visited by the Central Cambria High School Broadcasting Students. The Broadcasting students kicked off their project #IHATEHATE as part of the “Kindness Wave” that they started at the high school. The hope is that this wave will ripple through grades and make a splash even at the elementary schools. The Broadcasting Students hope to spread kindness online and teach the 4th & 5th grade students about using social media in a positive way and also treating others how we want to be treated every day. This program took place on April 17th for 4th and 5th grade students.

CES PSSA Pep Rally

The CC Midget Cheerleaders held a PSSA pep rally at Cambria Elementary! The students were very excited and the cheerleaders did a great job! Marley Long and Andie McCullough sang a little song they wrote about the PSSA. It was fantastic! Best wishes to all of our students!

Summary of 2014 - 2015 Forensics Season

The Central Cambria High School Forensics team had a successful season, despite all of the weather related schedule changes.  The team participated in three regular season district meets with many individual students being awarded ribbons at each meet. The team attended the District meet at Richland High School and five students qualified for the state competition and three students for the national competition. The students who qualified for the state competition were:  Jessa Balough - Dramatic Interpretation, Braden Hoffman and Cameron Hoffman - Duo Drama (district champions), Hunter Fedora - Radio Announcing, and Kate Griffith - Impromptu.  The national qualifiers, as determined at the district meet, were:  Jessa Balough - Dramatic Interpretation, Braden Hoffman and Cameron Hoffman - Duo Drama.  Unfortunately, the Regional meet was cancelled this year and the team was unable to participate in the State Competition also due to weather.   The CCHS Forensics team and coaches would like to thank the CCHS administration and the CCSD board for their continued support of this activity!

JE recognizes Autism Awareness Day

Faculty and Staff from Jackson Elementary wore their “Give a Hoot” t-shirts to support Autism Awareness.

JES Bunny Breakfast Day 2

Students in grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd got to have breakfast with the Easter Bunny. High School students from the Interact Club volunteered their time to help with the event. Parents and siblings of the students also came and had delicious cinnamon rolls provided by the Nutriton Group and had a chance to stop by and visit with the Easter Bunny. We would like to thank all of our parent volunteers from the PTO, high school students and the Nutrition Group that help every year to make this event possible. Happy Easter!
